My sister and I(both in our early twenties) are going to Thailand in December where is the best place to stay?

We like a busy place where we can party, tan, shop & do watersports but we dont want it to be too seedy. We were thinking of Patong beach but I heard that two girls might not be safe there? Also the place we go to has to have a good new years eve party!

If you want entertainment and clubs then Patong is the busiest area, in particular for New year's Eve. If you want a busy place to meet many people you will enjoy. There are quieter beaches and you can travel to and from Patong but if you want a place that is full of life, busy beach, many restaurants and shopping then you will enjoy.

You can stay at resort hotels close to the very busy part of Patong or you can stay just a little distance ( but possible to walk to the main center ) at some nice resorts.

These are some of the popular resorts.

All Patong on New year's Eve is a party !

Thailand has lots of nice beaches, but do you really think it is wise to ONLY visit beaches? Lots of beaches in the world, you might even have some near your home!

Thailand is sunny pretty much all of the time. You can even get a tan in Bangkok or Chiang Mai!

Why not split your visit to Thailand and go to Phuket for half of it and to Chiang Mai for the second half? This way you can see what makes Thailand uniquely Thailand!

My advice is to spend a couple days in Bangkok in the beginning. This will give you time to adjust to the heat and time changes. You can also purchase a flight to Phuket at this time. Lots to see and do in Bangkok, it's the capital city - don't avoid Bangkok!

Two airports serve Bangkok. If you intend to "blow Bangkok off" and fly directly to elsewhere - make sure you know which airport your connecting flight leaves from! You do have to allow sufficient time to make your flights - same for your departure for home!

Have fun.

I'd recommend you to visit koh Phangan, it's one of most popular destinations in Thailand, and is well-known as a celebrated island that hosts the biggest beach full moon party! Superb coral reefs and underwater scenery are The great attractions of Phangan too.

Krabi is also a good choice. white beaches, emerald ponds, fascinating coral reefs, numerous large and small islands and verdant forests with caves and waterfallsand. you twon can enjoy a lot of marine sports such as scuba diving!! Cliff jumping in Koh Phi phi is fun, too. hope you will have a nice time with your sister.

As large tourist areas go Patong is as safe as any. Just don't do stupid things and stay away from drugs and people using drugs. Other places are Krabi, and Koh Samui.

Thailand is generally safe for outsiders. As long as nobody confuses you with a street girl, you are fine and avoid drugs and strangers.
